returning to the air waves

Post by gabriel on Sat Apr 04, 2009 8:05 am

I've decided to return to the airwaves Very Happy after leaving twenty plus years ago,Im an old AM breaker and like many of us at the time
shutdown when it became legal (no more running Busby ragged).I have often thought about those days, the freinds, eyeballs
and generally great times which was had by all. So I've purchased a Midland 77-805 with portapack to see what the scenes
like nowadays, before I invest in a base unit again.I hope there are still breakers in my 20.Now has anyone used one of these
midlands and are they an ok unit.
lol!

It's a great little radio, I always loved mine many years ago. Must be 10 or so years since I had one and it's so useful! Use it mobile, base or as a handheld. I had it on my push bike and the good thing about it is the speaker mic. It makes it possible to mount anywhere!

thanks for that. I have just been listening in on the side clarity is good but one comment I would make is the
foul language they were using can't be warrented,I do remember on the AM scene swearing was not only frowned
upon any one using it was swiftly admonished by many fellow breakers, has standards slipped or is this just a
minority I happend to receive while channel hopping.

welcome to the forum gabriel and indeed the language stinks indeed. Imagine sitting where I am in the summer, you can hear idiots, tourets shouters, dj's and others from the north, the east, the south and the west of the UK.

Hope the experience gets better for you and also welcome back on the air also.

I would like to think it's a small minority and have experienced the same up here. Obv being close to Liverpool and when I used to travel backwards and forwards it would be every day. Not so nice when you have a child in the car and that was another reason for taking the ham licence.

I hope this does not put you off cos I'm in the middle of putting my CB back in the car, just don't use the car all that often!...
